Interested in Publishing a Book with APS?
The Book Committee welcomes your proposals to publish a monograph with us. We are pleased to work with you every step of the way to bring your proposal to publication. In general:

  • A contributed volume is edited by one to three people, with chapters written by authors of the editors’ choosing. Editors are not obligated to write any chapters, although they often choose to write one or more. Editors are most involved in the beginning and at the end of the manuscript process. They are responsible for:
    • developing the book’s table of contents,
    • securing commitment from chapter authors, and
    • reading each chapter after the manuscript is submitted to ensure the scientific content is sound.
  • Book editors retain full editorial control over the content and length of their volume and its chapters (The total manuscript should be greater than 200 pages; 300 pages is average).
  • Springer will review the chapters for all other style and format issues. Springer works with development editors to copyedit, typeset, and format the manuscript. The editors have one primary contact—a Springer publishing editor—throughout the process.
  • Springer has a generous color figure allowance: the eBook can appear in full color and 40 percent of the print edition’s final printed pages may appear in full color. Supplemental information, such as videos or large files, may be added online and linked to the book.
