Martin Frank, PhD, FAPS, was born in Chicago.

  • He earned his undergraduate and graduate degrees from the University of Illinois in Urbana in 1973.
  • He was an assistant professor in the Department of Physiology at George Washington University Medical Center in Washington, D.C., from 1975 to 1978.
  • He served as executive secretary of the National Institutes of Health Physiology Study Section for seven years.
  • He was the APS Executive Director from 1985 to 2018.

The APS’ Minority Travel Fellowship Awards were renamed the Martin Frank Diversity Travel Awards in 2018.
