Award amount: $1,000, plus reimbursement of the early registration fee to the American Physiology Summit and a complimentary ticket to the Teaching of Physiology Section banquet

Who Can Apply: Early-career stage investigator nor above the rank of assistant professor or a comparable non-tenure track position at an academic institution or in industry.

Award Description

The Teaching of Physiology Section New Investigator Award recognizes an outstanding early career investigator in the scholarship of teaching and learning. Candidates should be investigators who have made meritorious contributions to educational scholarship, the area represented by the American Physiology (APS) Teaching of Physiology Section.

Eligibility

The nominee must:

  • be a current APS member;
  • have a primary affiliation in the Teaching of Physiology Section;
  • not be above the rank of assistant professor or a comparable nontenure track position at an academic institution (e.g., lecturer) or in industry (e.g., scientist, research investigator, ect.);
  • submit a first author abstract to the American Physiology Summit 
  • present their abstract in a poster or oral presentation at the American Physiology Summit   

Criteria

The application package includes:

  • curriculum  vitae
  • two nomination letters from APS members,
  • PDF copy of a peer-reviewed publication reprint, and 
  • up to two PDF copies of a publication or abstract
Optional Materials
  • PDF copy of the abstract submitted to the American Physiology Summit in a Teaching Section topic category,
  • abstract number, and
  • abstract first-author's full name.

Applications will be judged on their publications and scholarly activity, how the publications and scholarly activities relate to the Teaching of Physiology Section, and evidence for independence and promise as demonstrated by their CV (grant funding, peer review activities, participation in Teaching Section-related activities such as the Institute for Teaching and Learning, etc.). The recipient will be recognized at the Teaching of Physiology Section business meeting.
