Award Description

The Respiration Section New Investigator Award recognizes an outstanding investigator in the early stages of their career. Candidates should be investigators who have made meritorious contributions to the area represented by the Respiration Section. This award was made possible by our strategic partner, ADInstruments.

Eligibility

The applicant must:

  • be an American Physiology Society (APS) member in good standing with a primary affiliation in the Respiration Section;
  • be an independent investigators for no more than eight years at the time of application;
  • not be above the rank of assistant professor or a comparable position in a research track at an academic institution or in industry (e.g., scientist, research investigator, etc.)
  • be nominated by two regulars members; and 
  • attend the American Physiology Summit and give an oral or poster presentation.
Criteria

The application package includes: 

  • the nominee's curriculum vitae.
  • two nomination letters from APS members; and 
  • three publication reprints.

Optional Materials:

  • PDF of the abstract submission,
  • abstract number, and
  • abstract first author's full name.

Candidates will be judged on their publications, how the publications relate to the interest of the Respiration Section, evidence for independence and potential (e.g., grant funding, peer review activities, etc.) and level of participation in the American Physiology Summit and APS-related activities.

Award at a Glance

Award amount: $1,000, plus reimbursement of the early registration fee to the American Physiology Summit and a complimentary ticket to the Respiration Section banquet
