Award Description
The Robert M. Berne Distinguished Lectureship honors one of the most distinguished members of the American Physiological Society Cardiovascular (CV) Section, Robert M. Berne, whose research focused on the local chemical regulation of tissue blood flow, with an emphasis on understanding the role of adenosine and how it elicits vasodilation. This award is presented to an established leader in cardiovascular physiology research whose current research is particularly stimulating, such that the presentation of this work would contribute to interest in, and growth of, the CV Section.
The Berne Distinguished Lectureship recipient will present a lecture describing their research at the American Physiology Summit.
Eligibility
The applicant:
- must be nominated by an APS member; and
- need not be a current APS member or fellow of the CV Section but should be a peak career stage of research innovation and productivity
Criteria
The applicant package includes:
- the nominee biosketch in the current National Institutes of Health format, including descriptions of their significant contributions to cardiovascular research; and
- two letters of nomination; one from a past or current trainee and the other from the nominator's choice.
Please note that materials in excess (e.g., inclusion of extra letters beyond the two required letters curriculum vitae) will be excluded from evaluation.
