Award Description
The Martin Frank Diversity Travel Award program is designed to broaden participation of those pursuing professional careers in physiological sciences. The specific intent of this program is to increase active participation in and networking at scientific meetings among trainees and early career faculty who are from historically underrepresented backgrounds in the physiological sciences.
Specifically, the program provides travel awards to graduate students, postdoctoral fellows and early career faculty members (within 5 years of obtaining a PhD) to attend the American Physiology Summit.
Diversity Travel Award recipients receive travel reimbursement, plus mentoring and networking opportunities during the meeting. Applicants should register for the meeting during early registration rate.
Please note: This award is open to specific underrepresented populations defined by the National Institutes of Health (NIH). NIH defines underrepresented group status in the Notice of NIH’s Interest in Diversity, which can be found here. The Martin Frank Diversity Travel Awards are open to:
- graduate students, postdoctoral fellows and early career faculty (recently transitioned; within 5 years of receiving a PhD) level ,
- individuals from a racial and ethnic groups that have been shown by the National Institutes of Health to be underrepresented in health related sciences on a national basis at the above career levels,
- individuals with disabilities at the above career levels, and
- applicants attending U.S. institutions and conducting research within the 50 States and U.S. Territories.
Applicants are allowed to receive up to two diversity travel awards maximum. Porter Physiology Development Fellows are encouraged to apply. Incomplete applications will not be reviewed.
Criteria
Applicants are selected based on the applicant’s reasons for wishing to attend the meeting, CV and recommendation letters. These awards do not provide funds for international travel.
