Welcome to the APS Renal Section! We are a collaborative community for all scientists at all career levels who are interested in:

  • the kidney;
  • the urinary tract;
  • the cells and vasculature that make up these structures;
  • the control of body fluid volume; and
  • electrolyte composition, including acid-base homeostasis.

Research may involve human or animal models, individual cell types and isolated membrane systems, using a wide range of cross-disciplinary approaches to the study of function in these systems, such as:

  • biochemistry,
  • immunology,
  • genetics,
  • mathematical modeling,
  • cell and molecular biology,
  • solute transport, and
  • other physiological methodologies.

Join us at the American Physiology Summit for our trainee event “Posters & Professors,” our annual Renal Dinner and the opportunity to engage with other renal physiologists.

APS members can log into their My APS Dashboard and Renal Section Hub for member-only content.

Not a member, yet? Valuable member benefits await you. Join our active community today!

Robert Fenton

"I attended my first Experimental Biology meeting in Washington DC in 1999 as a PhD student. Fueled by the amazing science that I had witnessed, I immediately afterwards became a member of the APS. I wanted to be part of that close-knit physiology community and get the opportunity to share my work with all the leaders in the field. Despite being based in Europe, I have always considered the APS Renal Section as my home society, and benefitted enormously from APS funding opportunities and support of my scientific career. The Renal Section has always generously supported trainees, making them feel welcome and highlighting them as an integral member of the section."
