The American Physiological Society (APS) Comparative and Evolutionary Physiology Section (CEPS) fosters an integrative approach to physiological problem solving. Influenced by the philosophies of Claude Bernard and August Krogh, comparative physiologists select the best animal models with which to study their problem of interest. Phylogenetically informed studies comparing physiological responses across multiple species of animals allow us to find generalizable physiological functions and discover the unique characteristics that let a specific animal tolerate challenges that others may not.

CEPS is dedicated to fostering student and postdoctoral development, and encourages section members to take an active role in APS committees and symposia organization. Our section’s highest honor, the August Krogh Distinguished Lecture, is supported by the Novo Nordisk Foundation, which also generously supports numerous CEPS trainee awards. These awards are given annually at the APS annual meeting.

APS members can log into their My APS Dashboard and CEPS Hub for member-only content.
