American Physiological Society (APS) members who join the Muscle Biology Group become part of an active community of scientists that are passionate about advancing research in muscle biology and function and physiology in skeletal, cardiac and smooth muscle. We sponsor a symposium, an endowed lecture and poster sessions at Experimental Biology. At these events, interest group members are invited to present findings that have the potential to change our current knowledge on muscle specific topics and areas of interest. The Muscle Biology Group also facilitates ongoing discussions on hot topics in our APS Connect Community. Join us and learn more about all types of muscle.
"My earliest exposure to APS was through publication of my doctoral work in APS journals which were viewed as the highest quality journals in which to publish your work. Early in my career, I was the recipient of an APS training award which helped me to take my career into a new area of research. My career path was a little different than most since I did two postdoctoral stints and then went into an industry position, but I have always stayed involved in APS and have viewed APS as my home for both publications and meetings. In the last several years as I have become an established researcher, I have become involved in Endocrinology and Metabolism Section and Muscle Biology Interest Group leadership which has opened many new doors for me regarding collaboration and trainee mentorship. Currently I serve as chair of the Muscle Biology Interest Group, and I would really like to welcome trainees, early-stage career and established researchers in muscle biology to reach and out become involved in the interest group. Moreover, APS is a truly wonderful Society to be involved in and has really helped me numerous times during my career. Finally with the advent of our new meeting I believe that the future is very bright for physiology as a career."
