Learn More About the Programs

The New York Medical College (NYMC) Department of Physiology provides students with an understanding of the structure and function of the cells and organ systems of the body and the means by which these functions are regulated. Emphasis is placed on the acquisition of sound basic training in general physiology through individually planned programs of course work, tutorials, seminars and supervised research. Instruction leading to the degree of Doctor of Philosophy or Master of Science is available in the following specialized areas:

  • cellular neurophysiology;
  • regulation of sleep and wakefulness;
  • neural, endocrine and local control of the circulation and microcirculation;
  • cardiac dynamics;
  • cardiac metabolism;
  • cardiac hypertrophy and failure;
  • endocrinology;
  • neuroendocrinology;
  • renal physiology; and
  • oxygen metabolism.

Graduate Research

Other basic and clinical sciences analyze the molecular and cellular structure of systems and the effects of biological processes. Physiology encompasses all of these, integrating myriad facets and layers of scientific scrutiny in the complex function of living organisms.

Our faculty are advancing science in the following research areas:

  • neuroscience,
  • diabetic cardiomyopathy,
  • stem cells and cardiac development,
  • stem cell regulation,
  • cardiovascular regulation,
  • endothelial regulation, and
  • control mechanisms of coronary and pulmonary arteries.
Tuition, Fees & Financial Support

PhD students receive full tuition and fee relief as well as health insurance covered by the school. Students are eligible for a yearly stipend to support living expenses.

Graduate School of Medical Sciences – MS Program $1,255 per credit.
