Editor's Message
Physiological Reviews publishes in-depth reviews covering
topics of wide interest, not only to physiologists, but to a wide range of
other scientific disciplines. Our reviews are both comprehensive and
timely. Currently, most areas in the biological sciences are undergoing
major changes due to the remarkable advances in the genomics arena. Physiological
Reviews is committed to publishing articles to facilitate the
integration of this new information with the related advances from
scientists pursuing other aspects of integrated function. We are
attempting to provide reviews that will contribute the background
information necessary for the elucidation of the function of newly
identified proteins. These reviews are also designed to promote
translational research. Physiological Reviews publishes
reviews that cover important scientific advances at the molecular,
cellular, organ, and whole animal levels. A major emphasis is placed on
integrating structural and functional findings. These reviews are designed
to benefit researchers in all areas of biology and will provide important
background information for the evaluation of altered phenotypes in disease
states and in new animal models and for the elucidation of the functional
roles of newly identified proteins. In addition to research, the reviews
are designed to provide definitive resources for educational purposes.
With this in mind, we encourage our authors to include more figures,
models, and tables than might traditionally be found in review articles.
