Adobe Acrobat Reader
To acquire the latest version click here http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html for a free download. We strongly recommend that you download the Asian Font Pack to avoid font errors appearing in manuscripts that were originally created without fonts being embedded. This download is also free at http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/acrrasianfontpack.html.
Remember to unzip the file when the download is complete. Time taken to download is approximately 10 minutes.
You may preview a demonstration at Updated - Manuscript Central Reviewer Instructions - Manuscript Central Reviewer Instructions. This is a PowerPoint file containing generic instructions and screen shots for the Reviewer module of APSCentral.
To access a manuscript for review it is necessary to have a User ID and Password. This will be provided when the Editor releases the manuscript to the Referee Center. However, it is advisable to check the site beforehand to be sure that your User ID and Password work correctly.
If you are new to the system or have forgotten your password please go to APS Central and click on the Check for Existing Account button. You will be requested to give your e-mail address and first and last name. Generally an e-mail address is regarded as a unique piece of information, so it is used to help verify users. Click on the Send button. This process only takes a few minutes and your access information will be e-mailed back to your own personal e-mail within the hour. DO NOT CREATE A NEW ACCOUNT at this stage until you receive a response from the server. If the search proves negative please e-mail support@scholarone.com and request an account check. Once you receive your access information click on the journal of choice which will take you to the next screen. Remember that access codes are case sensitive.
Here you will have an opportunity to update your account information such as a change of address, new phone or fax number, or change your e-mail address. You may wish to change your User ID and Password to something that is more familiar to you. We strongly recommend that you use alphanumeric passwords such as alpha6201. It is not advisable to use your first and last name as ID and Password in the likelihood that others may have the same name or could more easily guess your access information. APS does not release, share or sell this information to any third party. If you are adding additional key words or phrases to describe your area of expertise, please use commas to separate them.
To begin your review click on the Referee Center, where you will find the
manuscript listed. To open the entire document, click on its title. All
manuscripts are in PDF format. You can adjust the size of the screen by clicking
on the buttons in the bottom left hand corner.
A new screen will open containing the full manuscript. To close the manuscript, click on the Back button on your browser’s menu. It is assumed that most reviewers will wish to print out the manuscript to review it. Click on the printer icon directly above the open manuscript, or, if you are using a PC click with the right mouse and choose print. If you only wish to print part of the manuscript e.g., the text pages, you may print the text pages only by clicking File > Print > Page Range. If the manuscript contains color figures but you do not wish to print in color, then choose File > Print >Properties> Color > Grayscale.
We suggest that you prepare your comments to both Editor and Reviewer on your desktop and save them to your desktop as you would any other document. You can then log back on, click on the Referee Center and click the Review button. Cut and Paste your comments in the spaces for reviewer comments.
Click on the "Score" button and the Online Review Form will be displayed. After entering information on the review form, click on "Save Review" to save the comments you have pasted into the system. Then you will have the option to edit those comments or to submit your completed review by clicking on the "Submit Review" button.
Click on the “Get Help Now” button at the top right-hand corner of the APSCentral site. This is the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) site. If you cannot find an applicable solution, then send an E-mail to support@scholarone.com
In the interest of continuing with timely reviews, the system may
automatically generate reminders via e-mail at pre-determined times. If you are
unable to complete the review within the specified time, you are advised to
contact the Editor.
