PowerPoint

Using PowerPoint to create digital figures for print production is not a recommended practice. PowerPoint is a software application designed to develop on-screen presentations.  

However, due to the amount of PowerPoint users among our author base, APS will accept PowerPoint files for print production. Art Department staff will process and convert these files into industry-standard formats for commercial printing. Problems with creation or conversion may cause publication delay.

PowerPoint files are intended for screen display (RGB color model) and must be color separated for creation of printing plates. This process involves transforming RGB color (monitor display) to CMYK color (commercial printing). Colors that are represented in a PowerPoint Presentation may not be possible to reproduce on press. Please do not rely on a monitor display to predict color output on press.

NOTE: If you submit your accepted figures in PowerPoint format, please be sure to closely check the figures at proof stage. With PowerPoint, there is a potential for special characters or other elements to drop out.

TIPS: 

-   Acceptable PowerPoint figures are figures that were created entirely in PowerPoint.  

-   Figures created in other applications and then “pasted” or “dragged” into a PowerPoint presentation often create problems. It is better to use the function of Insert>Picture from File. Dragging and dropping an image file into MS Office applications causes the file to be rasterized at an arbitrary low resolution.

-    Another option is to create a high-resolution PDF from that original application (requires the full version of Adobe Acrobat - more info)

-   For more help in creating successful PowerPoint files, click here. Choose your platform (PC or Mac). 

-   DO NOT save your PowerPoint files in TIFF format. PowerPoint does not create high-resolution TIFF files. They will not be acceptable for publication.
