  • Akaka Amendment Communications
  • Recent FASEB Activities

Embryonic Stem Cell Research Developments Two papers published in the advance online edition of Nature this week highlight alternative methods for deriving embryonic stem cells that avoid embryo destruction. While these methods address ethical concerns for some, they are not without their own controversies. See today's article in the Washington Post: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2005/10/16
/AR2005101600754.html

Adverse Event Reporting in Clinical Trials The HHS Office of Human Research Protection has issued a request for public comments on draft guidance for reporting adverse events in clinical trials. These guidelines were issued in response to recommendations from the Secretary's Advisory Committee on Human Research Protection and would change how adverse events are reported in multicenter trials. To see the full text of the request and draft guidance, go to: http://www.hhs.gov/ohrp/requests/aerg.html

Akaka Amendment Communications If you have not had a chance to do so, please go to http://capwiz.com/faseb/home/ to send an alert message to your Congressional representatives urging them to reject the Class B dealer amendment on the Agriculture appropriations bill. If you have already done so and received an answer from your Senator or Representative, please send it on to us in the APS Science Policy office.
