NIH funding in the Washington Post

A story in Monday’s Washington Post highlights the funding crunch at NIH, citing specific examples of researchers losing grants, and young investigators choosing other professions after training in the lab. The APS plans to submit a letter to the editor drawing attention to our new fellowship program as an example of a positive response to tight funding on the part of the scientific community.

Your Congress, Your Health

The health research advocacy coalition Research!America is in the process of launching a major initiative to get Members of Congress to answer a 15 question survey on healthcare and research investment. In addition to the letters of invitation sent to each Member of Congress, Research!America is asking their member organizations, including the APS, to reach out to their membership for help in getting lawmakers to send in their answers. To urge your Member of Congress to answer the survey, go to http://www.yourcongressyourhealth.org/ and click on “Send a message.” Results will be made available online to the public.
