APS Science Policy Update

August 18, 2005

In this issue:

  • NIH reauthorization
  • Appropriations update

Information: NIH Reauthorization August continues to be a quiet month in Washington, with Congress out of session until after the Labor Day holiday. This weekend, the FASEB Science Policy Committee will hold its annual Face-to-face meeting here in Bethesda, which Bill Talman and Kevin Kregel will attend on behalf of APS. One of the main topics will be the discussion draft of the NIH reauthorization bill, and Cheryl Jaeger, the lead staffer on the initiative, will be the dinner speaker on Sunday night. Although we have not yet received a second draft, click here to see a summary the latest developments.

Information: Appropriations Update Click here to see a short summary the status of appropriations, with the House and Senate proposed budgets for biomedical research at the NIH, NSF, NASA and the VA.
