New Research Means Hope Campaign Supports NIH5/06/09
The APS is proud to be a supporter of the Research Means Hope Campaign, a media effort that is sponsored by a coalition of concerned patients and the physicians and researchers of America's medical schools, teaching hospitals, universities, research companies and organizations. The goal is to garner support for biomedical research and the NIH through advertising in key Congressional districts. APS Joins NCSE, 51 Others to Support Science Education in TX 3/24/09
The APS has signed on to a statement by the National Center for Science Education asking the Texas State Board of Education to "support accurate science education." The letter is signed by over fifty associations and societies "representing hundreds of thousands of scientists and teachers," according to NCSE.
Distribution of Science Funds in the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) of 20092/25/09
The National Institutes of Health (NIH), National Science Foundation (NSF), Veterans Affairs (VA) and NASA will all receive additional funding under the provisions of the stimulus package. Each agency is working hard on plans to spend the additional funds quickly and effectively.

Stimulus Legislation Contains Major Boost for Science2/18/09
On February 17, 2009, President Barack Obama signed the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (H.R. 1). The $789 billion stimulus measure is aimed at reviving the American economy by providing an infusion of funds for infrastructure priorities, including scientific research.
APS Presents Talking Points for Biomedical Research Funding 2/11/09
The APS Public Affairs Committee has developed a set of talking points for use in biomedical research advocacy, including a list of general points and information specific to the NIH, NSF, VA, and NASA.
APS Files Comments on USDA Contingency Plan Rule 2/9/09
The APS submitted comments on a regulatory proposal by the USDA to require institutions make plans providing for AWA regulated animals during emergencies or natural disasters. Although supportive of the notion of contingency planning, there are questions about whether this should be an AWA regulatory requirement. If your institution has not yet submitted comments on this proposal, please encourage it to do so.
