The American Journal of Physiology Lung Cellular and Molecular Physiology is seeking high-quality manuscripts in the area of translational research in acute lung injury and pulmonary fibrosis. The last decade has seen major progress in our understanding of the molecular and cellular pathogenesis of lung inflammation, injury and fibrosis. Translation of this understanding into novel insights and therapies for acute lung injury and pulmonary fibrosis in patients is a critical area of current research. This call for papers requests high-quality studies that extend observations made in experimental systems to human disease through study of patients, patient samples, and tissues. Examples of appropriate topics include (but are not limited to) 1) studies of biomarkers measured in biological samples from patients that expand our understanding of the pathogenesis of clinical acute lung injury and pulmonary fibrosis; 2) physiological measurements in patients such as studies of the determinants of the rate of alveolar fluid clearance in patients with acute lung injury; 3) studies in animals or in vitro systems to determine the functional significance of polymorphisms in candidate genes, of novel gene signatures and/or epigenetic modifications identified in clinical studies of patients with acute lung injury or pulmonary fibrosis.
Articles must be submitted by July 1, 2013.
All papers will be reviewed promptly, thoroughly, and fairly by members of the Editorial Board and guest reviewers who are recognized experts in this field. Accepted manuscripts will be published under a distinct heading and will receive special attention and handling. Only those papers not requiring extensive revision will be published under this call.
