Physiology Goes Mobile
American Physiological Society’s journals now accessible via app and mobile devices
BETHESDA, Md. (Feb. 22, 2013)—Starting today, the American Physiological Society (APS; www.The-APS.org) will bring new functionality to its highly regarded published research. Each of its 13 peer-reviewed journals are now available through the APS Journals app available at no charge via the Apple® iTunes® store.
APS Journals App
The app is compatible with the Apple iPhone®, iPad® and iPod touch® and allows subscribers to:
- see journal content that is automatically updated when a new issue is published
- access full-text content of current and recent issues
- search within an article using keywords and jump between sections
- view figures and tables easily
- adjust font size based on personal reading comfort
- save viewing history
- connect to MEDLINE and CrossRef links
- store, share and email articles.
Development of an app for the Google’s Android ® is underway.
Smartphones Link to Mobile Site
In addition to the app, APS now also provides mobile-optimized versions of each of its journals’ websites. The mobile journal websites are accessible through the browser of any mobile device, and allow users access to the full archive of each journal, including text and images. The mobile site also provides connections to MEDLINE and CrossRef links and gives visitors the ability to become a subscriber or download individual articles for purchase.

The American Physiological Society Launches Animal Research Website
Released January 19, 2010 -- The American Physiological new website, www.animalresearchcures.org accompanies its new brochure Animal Research: Finding Cures, Saving Lives. Both respond to common questions about animal research, its need, form of regulation, and links to related sites. The Finding Cures website enables creation of links to specific sections of the brochure, provides a PDF of the brochure, and outlines how donations supports distribution of these materials to classroom teachers and scientists involved in public outreach. Finding Cures clearly articulates the complex issues surrounding the humane of animals in medical and veterinary research.
