Support APS Memorial Funds and Awards
APS supports numerous awards that foster the professional development of young physiologists. Many of these awards are supported through memorial funds and gifts named for physiologists who have created a lasting legacy through their science and at the Society.
Beverly P. Bishop Award Fund
Giles F. Filley Fund
A fund supporting the Giles F. Filley Memorial Award. The award is given annually to an investigator demonstrating excellence in respiratory physiology and medicine.
Folk Senior Physiologist Fund
A fund supporting the Senior Physiologist Award Program was established in honor of G. Edgar Folk, Jr. The award is given annually to provide an opportunity for senior Society members to remain active in their careers, pursue areas of physiological interest, and participate in Society activities.
Arthur C. Guyton Fund
A fund supporting the Arthur C. Guyton Award for Excellence in Integrative Physiology and initiated through a contribution from Charles Rife. The award is given annually to an individual demonstrating outstanding promise based on his/her research program in feedback control systems, quantitative modeling, and integrative physiology.
Steven M. Horvath Memorial Fund
A fund established to honor the memory of Steven M. Horvath, distinguished APS member. Proceeds of the fund will be used to provide support for the The Steven M. Horvath Professional Opportunity Awards to promote the advancement of underrepresented minority graduate.
Gabor Kaley Memorial Fund
The Gabor Kaley Memorial Fund was established by the Kaley Family to recognize the contributions of Gabor Kaley to our understanding of the microcirculation and cardiovascular function. The Fund provides support for a joint American Physiological Society and Microcirculatory Society session at Experimental Biology that consists of an annual lecture and presentations by four young investigators selected by an APS/MCS selection committee.
Lazaro J. Mandel Fund
A fund supporting the Lazaro J. Mandel Young Investigator Award. The award is given annually to an individual demonstrating outstanding promise based on his/her research program in epithelial or renal physiology.
John F. Perkins Fund
A fund supporting the John F. Perkins, Jr. Memorial Award promoting cultural and scientific benefits associated with the international aspects of physiology.
Carlos Romero Memorial Fund
A fund established to honor the memory of Juan Carlos Romero, distinguished APS member and to be used to support the Juan Carlos Romero Young Investigator Award for presentation at the Experimental Biology meeting.
Bodil M. Schmidt-Nielsen Memorial Fund
The Bodil M. Schmidt- Nielsen Fund was established to provide support for the Bodil Schmidt-Nielsen Mentor and Scientist Award.
Fleur L Strand Travel Award Fund
The Fleur L Strand Award was established to recognize the achievements of a young physiologist, (graduate student or postdoctoral), enabling the recipient to attend the APS annual meeting at the Experimental Biology meeting.
Caroline tum Suden Fund
The tum Suden Fund supports the Caroline tum Suden/Frances A. Hellebrandt Professional Opportunity Awards that provide funds to junior physiologists to attend and participate in the annual Experimental Biology meeting.
Shih-Chun Wang Fund
A fund supporting the Shih-Chun Wang Young Investigator Award to an individual demonstrating outstanding promise based on his/her research program in the physiological sciences.
