The organizational meeting convened at 9:30 am, Saturday, October 7, 1995, in Room 118, Oakdale Hall, Oakdale Campus of the University of Iowa. Earlier in 1995, this organization's formation as the Iowa Chapter of the American Physiological Society had been provisionally approved by the APS Council. The meeting was chaired by Richard McCabe who was designated as the 1995-96 President. Also present were Charles Wunder who was designated as the 1995-96 President-Elect, David Gutterman who was designated 1995-98 Treasurer, Luke Mortensen who was appointed 1995-96 Chair of the Membership Committee, and Gerald DiBona who represented the APS Council and who agreed to represent our chapter before that Council.
It was decided that our official name would be Iowa Physiological Society, that Dr. McCabe would proceed to prepare bylaws using as a guide those of Ohio Physiological Society, and seek incorporation as a nonprofit organization (as later approved on 3/13/96 by the Iowa Secretary of State). It was also decided to set annual dues at $10 for regular (voting) members with no charge for student dues and to hold our first scientific meeting in conjunction with the Iowa Academy of Science's 108th Annual Meeting on April 26-27, 1996.
