The courses are �Laboratory Leadership�, �Laboratory Management�, �Laboratory Best Practices� (includes responsible conduct of research [RCR], and federal guidelines for good laboratory practices [GLP]), �Laboratory Discovery and Innovation�, and �Mentoring and being Mentored in the Laboratory�.
    As described in Nature (v440, 03/09/2006), this program uses unique training methods that allows you to practice professional skills needed to help you run a successful research program and achieve breakthrough science and a distinguished career. Academic Extension Credit is available. Applicable to training grant requirements. Early registration special ends July 7th, 2006. First class begins August 8th, 2006. Ask for tuition discounts for qualifying associations and universities and National Postdoctoral Association members.

2) Wanted: Your Scientific Conference Recommendations

Attending an international scientific conference doesn't just mean participating in seminars and workshops; there's also good beaches, good wine, and various extracurricular activities. Science's Next Wave is looking for stories from scientists about the best places to have a meeting. Please send 500 words and a digital image of yourself by 14 JULY 2006 to Robin Arnette at rarnette@aaas.org.
   Our editors will review the entries, and the top 12 will be featured on Next Wave 25 August 2006. The top conference story, in the judgement of the editors, will win a new IPod, and the 3 runners-up will win a flash-memory stick. We're waiting to hear your story.

4) Travel Awards for APS Conference: Physiological Genomics and Proteomics of Lung Disease

   The American Physiological Society, with support from NIDDK and NIGMS, is offering travel awards for underrepresented minorities (i.e., African Americans, Hispanics, Native Americans, and Pacific Islanders) who are U.S. citizens or permanent residents, to attend the APS Conference, "Physiological Genomics and Proteomics of Lung Disease" from November 2-5, 2006 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
   The specific intent of this award is to increase participation of pre- and post-doctoral minority students in the physiological sciences. The awards are open to graduate students, postdoctoral students, and advanced undergraduate students. Students who obtained their undergraduate education in Minority Biomedical Research Programs (MBRS) or Minority Access to Research Career (MARC)-eligible institutions, as well as students in the APS Porter Development Program, are encouraged to apply. Minority faculty members at the above institutions may also submit applications. Submitting an abstract is not a requirement of this award. Funds will provide transportation, meals, ground transportation and lodging.
Important Deadlines:

5) 2006 Grover Conference on Rho Family GTPases in Pulmonary
Vascular Pathophysiology
September 6 -10th 2006

   The American Thoracic Society, American Heart Association, the National Heart Lung and Blood Institute of the NIH, the American Physiologic Association, and the Pulmonary Circulation Foundation cordially invite you to the 2006 Grover Conference on Rho Family GTPases in Pulmonary Vascular Pathophysiology from September 6 -10th 2006.
   This conference will provide a forum for exchange of information between respiratory and critical care physicians, endothelial cell and vascular biologists, embryologists, pediatricians, cardiologists, hematologists and, more broadly, scientists working on various aspects of lung disease.    Please note that the deadline for registering is July 21, 2006.
  
We are pleased to announce that CME credit for physicians will be provided through The University of Colorado School of Medicine. They are accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical
Education. The University of Colorado School of Medicine designates this educational activity for a maximum of 24.25 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits .Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
