APS Recommends Increased Funding for Research

As Congress considers budgets for fiscal year (FY) 2015, the APS submitted written testimony to the subcommittees that fund the National Institutes of Health, National Science Foundation, NASA, and the VA. For each agency the APS recommends increased funding to support the research enterprise and begin to reverse the damage done by reductions in federal spending.

Recommendations at a Glance

  • For NIH, a net funding level of $32 billion
  • For NSF, a net budget of $7.6 billion
  • For NASA, a restoration of the life sciences research budgets and an increase of funding for the Human Research Program
  • For the VA Medical and Prosthetic Research Program, a level of $621 million
