APS Comments on Travel Restrictions for Federal Scientists

In the wake of allegations of misspent government funds, the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) in 2012 imposed new restrictions on travel for federal employees. OMB directed agencies to cut their travel budgets by 30% and imposed new limits on conferences and meetings.

The Senate Homeland Security and Government Affairs Committee held a hearing January 14, 2014 to assess the impact of these regulations and consider legislation to codify these regulations. The APS sent a letter to the Committee, outlining the negative effect these restrictions have had on the ability of government scientists to carry out their work.
