The APS AuthorChoice program was developed to allow researcher authors the ability to provide immediate, open and free access to their work. For a growing number of our authors, providing open access is a condition of funding. For others, they simply want to have their latest findings available to the scientific domain without delay. Still others believe that paying to make their article free in the first 12 months of publication is not a worthwhile use of their grant monies.
In an effort to meet the needs of these authors and in consultation with our members, we have decided to provide this new option so that authors can elect to release their results at the time that best suits them. We also hope that by offering this model, we may be able to reduce subscription prices in the future. The fee for research articles is $2,000. The fee for review articles is $3,000. NOTE: Articles for which authors have purchased the AuthorChoice option are covered by the Creative Commons "CC-BY" license. So long as users properly attribute the work (complete APS journal citation, including DOI number), users are free to copy, distribute, and transmit the work, to adapt the work, and to make commercial use of the work (but not in any way that suggests that APS endorses the user or the use of the work). For complete terms, go to the Creative Commons website.
