Editor's Message

December 21, 2011:

I want to let you all know that the cover of the journal is changing as of January 2012; the stylistic renditions will be replaced by a table of contents (TOC). You will note from the new cover there are now two issues per month resulting in speedier electronic publication, with paper publication still being monthly. There are several reasons for the cover change. One is editorial preference, another is the utility of having the TOC right there when the journal arrives on your desk, a third is in anticipation of the day the journal is published electronically only - when there will be no cover at all.  I hope you like the change - my thanks to Eric Pesanelli, APS Art Manager, for the new design.

Dear Colleagues:

As the new Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Applied Physiology, I am writing to invite you to submit your most important research to the Journal.

The scope of the Journal has expanded to accommodate the consequences of the genomic revolution. We encourage not only traditional theoretical and experimental physiological research, but also welcome physiological research that builds on molecular discoveries, and physiological research that connects to clinical states within the Journal’s domain. In fact, we envision the Journal as the best place to publish all of  these levels of research.

Working with our knowledgeable and international Editorial Advisory Board members, the Associate Editors and I can assure you of a rapid, robust and fair peer-review process. We are especially aiming to reduce time to decision, and to monitor reviews for excessive demands for additional experiments, which we feel have become unduly burdensome to many authors. We also have begun to work towards raising the Journal’s impact factor.

Thank you in advance for your valuable contributions to the Journal of Applied Physiology.

Sincerely,

Peter D. Wagner, M.D.
