We invite anyone to propose an article
published in one of the APS journals as a Classic Article. If the
article meets the criteria of a Classic Article, you will be invited
to write an essay about it to be posted on the Classic Articles web
page and published in the appropriate APS journal.
A Classic Article should have been published
long enough ago to have had citation history. Though this is not a
hard and fast number, publication at least 25 years ago could be
used as a guideline. It should be of signal importance to the field
or represent a paradigm shift in the field of study.
An essay about a Classic Article should lay the
conceptual framework for the original work, and then describe how
that framework was modified. The essay should be around 1000 words
long, and the first figure in the essay should be a picture of the
author of the classic paper.
The choice of Classic Article and the essay
will be reviewed by the Editor of the appropriate
journal for acceptance. Please submit Classic Article proposals to the Editor in Chief of the appropriate APS
journal.
