Metabolomics and Physiological Systems

The regulation of gastrointestinal function includes complex interactions among organs often reflected in unique patterns of metabolites. The modern tools of metabolomics provides the opportunity to assess broad profiling of metabolites to provide new insights into metabolic relationships including unique metabolites synthesized by the intestinal microbiota. Studies utilizing metabolomics to gain insights into the physiological and pathophysiological regulation of the gastrointestinal system are of great interest to readers of the American Journal of Physiology-Gastrointestinal and Liver Physiology.
