William S. Rosenthal

ROSENTHAL--William S. New York Medical College mourns the passing of our colleague and benefactor, William S. Rosenthal, M.D., professor emeritus of medicine. For nearly 30 years, Dr. Rosenthal served as the Upham Professor of Gastroenterology and Director the Division of Gastroenterology. Throughout his long and distinguished career as a clinician, investigator and educator, he trained generations of physicians who have contributed to the field of gastroenterology. His humanitarian spirit and generosity will live on with the endowed chair in medicine that he and his wife Barbara bestowed on the College in 2001. The Barbara and William Rosenthal Chair of Medicine will contribute immeasurably to the training of many students, residents and faculty, and to the care of countless patients. We extend heartfelt condolences to his family and colleagues. Alan Kadish, M.D., President Edward C. Halperin, M.D., M.A. Chancellor for Health Affairs and CEO William H. Frishman, M.D. The Barbara and William Rosenthal Chair of Medicine Ralph A. O'Connell, M.D. Professor of Psychiatry
