To apply for membership, you must first create an account and customer profile.

If you are a new user

If you are a returning user
, click the Join Now button below and enter your email address and password. If you've forgotten your password, you may reset it by clicking on "Click here" next to "I would like to reset my password".


Requirements By Category (click a category header below to view specific requirements)

Regular Membership
Completed applications are accepted monthly upon approval of the Executive Director. Those converting from graduate student membership to receive the first year of regular membership free and then 50% off regular member rate up to five years from the date the degree was awarded.

  1. Current institutional address and contact information
  2. Generic demographic information (birth date, gender, race, ethnicityApplicants are encouraged, but not required, to provide demographic information so we can track our progress in increasing diversity among physiologists and gage the effectiveness of our diversity programs. )
  3. At least one section affiliation
  4. Educational history
  5. Current occupation (occupational history is optional)
  6. Bibliography Your bibliography should be submitted in the form found in the American Journal of Physiology. These publications should consist of manuscripts that have been printed in peer-review journals. An example of the current form is:

    MacLeod RJ and Hamilton JR. Volume regulation initiated by Na+-nutrient contransport in isolated mammalian villus enterocytes. Am J Physiol Gastorintest Liver Physiol 280: G26-G33, 1991.
    (you must have at least one journal published in a peer-reviewed journal)
Graduate Student Membership
Graduate student applications are accepted monthly upon approval of the Executive Director. Graduate students converting to regular membership receive the first year of membership free and then 50% off regular member rate up to five years from the date the degree was awarded.

  1. Home address and contact information
  2. Generic demographic information (birth date, gender, race, ethnicityApplicants are encouraged, but not required, to provide demographic information so we can track our progress in increasing diversity among physiologists and gage the effectiveness of our diversity programs. )
  3. At least one section affiliation
  4. Educational history (note that if you have a Ph.D., you should apply for regular membership)
Undergraduate Student Membership
Undergraduate student applications are accepted monthly upon approval of the Executive Director.

  1. Home address and contact information
  2. Generic demographic information (birth date, gender, race, ethnicityApplicants are encouraged, but not required, to provide demographic information so we can track our progress in increasing diversity among physiologists and gage the effectiveness of our diversity programs. )
  3. At least one section affiliation
  4. Educational history (you will enter the date you expect to obtain your bachelors or other undergraduate degree)
  5. Proof of matriculation in an accredited degree program (upload a letter from your school's registrar)
Affiliate Membership
Affiliate applications are accepted monthly upon approval of the Executive Director. Affiliate membership is open to individuals interested in fostering the mission and aims of the Society but do not have evidence of scholarly work or publications in physiology. Individuals must also be residents of the Americas.

  1. Current business address and contact information
  2. Generic demographic information (birth date, gender, race, ethnicityApplicants are encouraged, but not required, to provide demographic information so we can track our progress in increasing diversity among physiologists and gage the effectiveness of our diversity programs. )
  3. At least one section affiliation
  4. Education history (note that if you have a Ph.D., you should apply for regular membership)
  5. Current occupation (occupational history is optional)
Emeritus Membership
APS regular members must meet the following criteria to become an emeritus member. To request a transfer to emeritus status, please contact members@the-aps.org.
 
  1. Be a member in good standing for 15 years
  2. Be age 65 or older
