PhUn Week

The goals of your PhUn Week visit are to excite students about science and science careers. To do that, your methods must match the goals Both your science content and teaching methods need to match the developmental level of the students AND should model best practices in science teaching. Most importantly, students should be engaged in DOING science, NOT just listening about science.

How can you make your visit exciting and effective? Do a little reading and follow good advice based on research in science education. Check out these brief readings in the Resources section below:

  • Scientists in Science Education: This booklet produced by BSCS for the NIH’s Office of Science Education, provides an excellent overview. See especially pages 6-7 for classroom visit information.
  • Sharing Science with Children: This short booklet provides a quick overview of the do’s and don’ts.
