The “Making Scientific Presentations: Critical First Skills” course focuses on skills for developing abstracts and posters for scientific meetings, presenting posters, and learning to build a professional network at meetings.

Students work with experienced researchers, getting expert feedback on their written work and presentations. Students record and upload oral presentations for review by fellow students and instructors.

APS offers Presentation Skills as a 4-part series occurring at different times throughout the year. Each part or the series may be taken individually or together.

Part 1 – Abstract Writing for Scientific Meetings is a weeklong course offered every October before Experimental Biology abstracts are due. Registration typically opens in September.

Part 2 – Creating a Poster for a Scientific Meeting is a weeklong course offered every November. Registration typically opens in October.

Part 3 – Presenting a Scientific Poster is a weeklong course offered every February before Experimental Biology. Registration typically opens in January.

Part 4 –Networking at a Scientific Meeting is a weeklong course offered every March before Experimental Biology. Registration typically opens in February.
