There is a need for scientists to effectively communicate the scientific process to the general public.  Effective scientific communication skills serve many functions, including protecting the public from misinformation, influencing public policy, and inspiring a sense of wonder in non-scientists.  This symposium is targeted for a broad audience of scientists who would like to learn how innovative scientific communication skills will improve their ability to secure funding, promote their research agenda, and create collaborations with scientists across a variety of disciplines, including those in industry research programs.  In addition, participants will gain an appreciation of the importance of engaging in science outreach programs and practices that could impact science policy.
