Sample 2: Performance Expectations for Laboratory Work
1. Maintain equipment in working condition.
2. Assure that needed supplies are on hand.
3. Maintain notebooks on procedures and data - keep them up-to-date.
4. Assist others as needed for transfer of knowledge of standard procedures.
5. Perform designated experiments. These come first. For chronic animals, all experiments should be scheduled to accommodate all aspects of data collection.
6. Experiments come first: breaks, lunch, etc. should be adjusted so that data collection is not compromised. Personal cell phones/text messaging (insert your policy here).
7. If times for tissue collection have been scheduled, keep them. Changes in schedule should be communicated to all involved.
8. Either myself or postdocs or graduate students may request additional experiments or protocol changes. These changes will be discussed at laboratory meetings and, if approved, should be carried out.
9. Flexibility in time schedule is expected but absences need to be communicated to (insert you or your designate here).
10. Take pride in your work, it reflects on your integrity as a person.
