Sample 1: Performance Expectations for Summer Students

  1. Regular participation in laboratory activities. If for some reason you are not able to come, it is your responsibility to contact the individual that you are assisting regarding your absence.
  2. Present data at least at one lab meeting during the summer.
  3. Prepare a review of at least one scientific article to be evaluated for publication. 
  4. Conduct at least one experiment on your own which would require performing the laboratory assays as well as calculation of the data with a brief write-up of the results. This write-up should be in an abstract form consisting of 4 points: a statement of hypothesis or purpose, a brief statement of methods, results and conclusion. 
  5. Attend at least one seminar or conference held within our institution and prepare a one-page summary of the program. 
  6. Prepare a final typed report of work in the laboratory, including a list of activities, such as assisting in surgeries or assays that are not actually part of your project, attending laboratory meetings, and seminars. This report when signed by your supervisor can be taken to your university to validate your activities toward credit.
