"Conflict Resolution: How to Keep Everyone Happy!"
(Sponsored by Women in Physiology Committee)

Organizers:
Roy L. Sutliff, Ph.D., Emory University/Atlanta VAMC
Angela J. Grippo, Ph.D., Northern Illinois University

Conflict resolution is an important skill set for all scientists. One’s laboratory cannot run well if there is conflict among the lab members. In addition, a scientist must often resolve conflicts in a departmental or university situation. The Women in Physiology Mentoring Symposium for EB2012 will focus on how best to go about conflict resolution. This was chosen as a topic from the list of topics given by attendees at the EB2010 WIP symposium; so it should have universal appeal.

The problem of conflict resolution with superiors, colleagues, laboratory employees, students and postdocs, and lab mates will be addressed by three individuals: Patrick O. Smith, a clinical psychologist, Barbara Horwitz, an excellent research scientist, and Jennifer Sasser, a postdoctoral fellow. Each presentation will be 30 min and there will be an additional 30 min for audience discussion with the panel.
