International Collaboration: Science Knows No Boundaries

2005 Workshop on
"International Collaboration: Science Knows No Boundaries"

(Sponsored by APS Career Opportunities in Physiology  Committee)

Organizers:
Melinda R. Dwinell, Ph.D. (Medical College of Wisconsin)
Francisco H. Andrade, Ph.D. (Case Western Reserve University)

The need for intellectual cross-pollination has driven scientists to travel and communicate with peers in far-away lands. The skills and savvy needed to establish and maintain research collaborations across political and cultural boundaries are essential components to a successful career in science. While initial contact with international researchers should begin during graduate school and continue throughout one’s career in science, learning when and how to initiate and sustain international collaborations is never easy. This symposium aims to emphasize the personal and scientific benefits of international collaboration during all stages of professional life. Second, this symposium will introduce the audience to agencies and organizations that promote and support scientific collaboration worldwide. This symposium will encourage international collaboration by highlighting the benefits and opening the door to various funding opportunities available worldwide.
