John T. Reeves, M.D.
November 17, 1928 - September 15, 2004
John ("Jack") T. Reeves, M.D. was in a fatal motor vehicle-bicycle
accident on September 15, 2004. Dr. Reeves was a former Professor of
Medicine, Pediatrics and Surgery and was currently Professor Emeritus at
the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center. Dr. Reeves had been on
the faculty of the University of Colorado since 1972. Dr. Reeves made
exceptional contribution in teaching/mentoring, research, administration
and leadership, both nationally and internationally. He was the recipient
of numerous teaching awards throughout his career and recent recipient of
the University of Colorado system wide Thomas Jefferson Award. For many
years, Dr. Reeves was a senior member of the Cardiovascular Pulmonary
Research Laboratory in the Department of Medicine. He was an integral part
of the Developmental Lung Biology Laboratory in the Department of
Pediatrics, and most recently he played a significant role in the
establishment of the Colorado Center for Altitude Medicine and Physiology
in the Department of Surgery.
Dr. Reeves made outstanding research contribution in the areas of lung
physiology/pathophysiology, exercise, and high altitude
medicine/physiology; he was a friend, counselor, mentor, scientific
advisor and inspiration to several generations of adults and pediatric
pulmonologists, cardiologists, critical care physicians, and PhD
investigators. He was a Renaissance man in true sense of the word. We have
lost one of a kind.
