Alan Tucker
September 17, 1947 - January 6, 2004

A memorial service for Dr. Alan Tucker, Colorado State University Vice Provost for Faculty Affairs, will be at 4 p.m. Jan. 13 in the Lory Student Center Main Ballroom. Dr. Tucker, a respected teacher, researcher and administrator, drowned Jan. 6 in Cozumel, Mexico, where he was on vacation with his wife, Melissa, and friends.

Dr. Tucker was born in England on Sept. 17, 1947, to Philip and Giacomina Tucker. The family came to Santa Barbara, Calif., in 1959 where he attended San Marcos High School and the University of California at Santa Barbara. At UCSB, he obtained his undergraduate degree in zoology in 1968 and his Ph.D. in biological sciences in 1972.

Alan and Melissa were married in Santa Barbara in July of 1968. Their son, Scott, was born in 1970 in Santa Barbara before they moved to Colorado in 1973. Dr. Tucker served as a research associate at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center in Denver, where daughter Kristin was born in 1974. After a short period in Dayton, Ohio, where Dr. Tucker was a faculty member at Wright State University School of Medicine, the family settled in Fort Collins in 1979.

Employed by Colorado State University since 1979, Dr. Tucker served as a professor of physiology, assistant dean and associate dean in the College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Science, and head of the Physiology Department before being appointed vice provost in May of 2002.

Dr. Tucker is survived by his father, Philip, and Philip's wife, Judy; his wife, Melissa; son and daughter-in-law, Scott and Shannon; daughter and son-in-law, Kristin and Tony; granddaughters Aislinn and Lilly; nieces Tina Knauss and her husband Ryan, Kim Andrade and her husband Oscar, Megan Rohl, Kirsten Silvers, and Trista Silvers; and nephew Cooper Rohl. He also is survived by his father-in-law, Robert Bryan; and sisters-in-law Meredith Rohl and husband, Larry Boccaccio, and Sheridan Silvers and her husband, Tom. He was preceded in death by his mother, Giacomina, and his sister, Marina Gudgeon.

In lieu of flowers, friends may remember Alan with a donation to the Dr. Alan Tucker Memorial Scholarship Fund in the College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences at Colorado State University.
