APS AWARDEE RESPONSIBILITIES AND TAX RULES

Environmental and Exercise Physiology Section Awards

The John and Carol Greenleaf Award will recognize distinguished investigators who have conducted research designed to solve significant human health and performance problems.  The Awardee must be a member of the Environmental and Exercise Physiology Section (>10 years) and must have at least 50 publications, 25 of which utilized humans as test subjects and 20 of which must be as first author published in the Journal of Applied Physiology.  This Award is expected to be approximately $20,000 - $25,000, established by a bequest of $500,000 to APS by Dr. John and Carol Greenleaf.  The Award can be made annually, based upon the merits of qualified EEP investigators. See article in The Physiologist.

The Environmental and Exercise Physiology (EEP) Section Edward F. Adolph Distinguished Lectureship ($1,000 plus up to $2,000 travel reimbursement to Experimental Biology and complimentary registration to the meeting) is given to an eminent research scholar contributing to the areas of environmental, exercise and/or thermal physiology. Recipients are recognized at the EEP Awards Reception. Candidates for the 2007 award must upload a copy of their curriculum vitae by November 3, 2005 at: www.the-aps.org/eforms/awards. Questions should be directed to Ronald Terjung, EEP Section Chair, terjungR@missouri.edu.

The Environmental and Exercise Physiology (EEP) Section Honor Award ($1,250 plus reimbursement of the advance registration fee) recognizes a previous or current primary member of the Section who has made significant research contributions to the scientific advancement of environmental, exercise, or thermal physiology while enhancing the educational objectives of the Section. Awardees are recognized at the EEP Awards Reception. Applicants must upload a copy of their curriculum vitae by November 3, 2005 at: www.the-aps.org/eforms/awards. Questions should be directed to Ronald Terjung, EEP Section Chair, terjungR@missouri.edu.

The Environmental and Exercise Physiology (EEP) Section New Investigator Award ($1,000 plus reimbursement of the advance registration fee) recognizes an outstanding investigator in the early stages of his/her career.  Candidates should be investigators who have made meritorious contributions to the area represented by the EEP Section.  They should not be above the rank of Assistant Professor or a comparable position in a research track at an academic institution or in industry (e.g. Scientist, Sr. Scientist, Research Investigator, etc.).  They should receive nominations from at least two regular members of the APS.  Candidates will be judged on their publications, how the publications relate to the EEP Section and evidence for independence and promise (grant funding, peer review activities, etc.).  Although this is not an abstract-based award, awardees are expected to attend EB and make an oral or poster presentation.  The candidate must be an APS member in good standing. Candidates must upload: a curriculum vitae, 2 nomination letters from APS members, and 3 reprints. Awardees are recognized at the EEP Awards Reception at EB 2006. All application materials must be completed online by October 31, 2005 at: www.the-aps.org/eforms/awards. Questions should be directed to Ronald Terjung, EEP Section Chair, terjungR@missouri.edu.

The Environmental & Exercise Physiology (EEP) Section Gatorade Beginning Investigator Award ($750 plus reimbursement of the advance registration fee) is presented to a post-doctoral trainee whose investigation in either environmental, exercise or thermal physiology has been designated by the Steering Committee as an outstanding example of experimental research. Applicants must be first author on an abstract submitted to an EEP topic category at Experimental Biology. Awardees are recognized at the EEP Awards Reception at EB 2006. All application materials must be completed online by November 2, 2005 at: www.the-aps.org/eforms/awards. Questions should be directed to Ronald Terjung, EEP Section Chair, terjungR@missouri.edu.

The Environmental & Exercise Physiology (EEP) Section Gatorade Young Investigator Award ($600 plus reimbursement of the advance registration fee) is presented to a pre-doctoral graduate student whose investigation in either environmental, exercise, or thermal physiology has been designated by the Steering Committee as an outstanding example of experimental research. Applicants must be first author on an abstract submitted to an EEP topic category at Experimental Biology and have not received their advanced degree by the date of the abstract deadline.

The Environmental & Exercise Physiology (EEP) Section Military Physiology Award for Beginning Investigators ($750 plus reimbursement of the advance registration fee) recognizes outstanding research in either environmental, exercise, or thermal physiology by a post-doctoral fellow or equivalent that is relevant to the physiological missions of the U.S. Armed Forces. Applicants must have received their advanced degree within four years of the abstract submission date and must be first author on an abstract submitted to an EEP topic category at Experimental Biology. Awardees are recognized at the EEP Awards Reception at EB 2006. All application materials must be completed online by November 2, 2005 at: www.the-aps.org/eforms/awards.
