2008 APS Intersociety Meeting: The Integrative Biology of Exercise V
September 24-27, 2008
Hilton Head, South Carolina

General Information Abstract Submission

Abstract Deadline

The deadline for the submission of abstracts is June 6, 2008 — 5:00 PM EST.

Abstract Fee

All abstracts must be submitted electronically and require an abstract handling payment of $65. The abstract handling fee is non-refundable and must be submitted at the time of abstract submission. Payment may be made with a Visa, MasterCard, or American Express credit card. A receipt of the abstract handling charge will be emailed to the first author only.

Abstract Submission Important Information

Abstracts should contain a sentence stating the study objective (unless given in the title); a brief statement of methods, if pertinent; a summary of the results obtained; and a statement of the conclusions. Use a short, specific title. Capitalize initial letters of trade names and use standard abbreviations for units of measure. Non-standard abbreviations should be spelled-out in full at first mention, followed by the abbreviation in parentheses.

All investigations involving humans and animals reported in abstracts must have been conducted in conformance with guidelines for experimental procedures as set forth in the Declaration of Helsinki and the APS “Guiding Principals in the care and Use of Animals.” The Organizing Committee will refuse abstracts in which evidence of adherence to these guidelines is not apparent.

All abstracts submitted for this meeting will be bound with the official program and handed out onsite. These abstracts are considered in press of The Physiologist. They will appear in the December 2008 issue and should be cited as “program number [#], in press” directly reproduced from the electronic submission. Authorization of the senior author certifies that the research adheres to the APS Guiding Principles for the Care and Use of Animals. Click here to view the APS Guiding Principals.

Software Required

Submission requires the use of a 4.06 web browser or higher and Adobe Acrobat Reader.  You can download the latest version of: Microsoft Internet Explorer (the preferred browser for this site) at (www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/downloads/default.asp) or Netscape Navigator (www.http://channels.netscape.com/ns/browsers/default.jsp).  A copy of Adobe Acrobat Reader can be downloaded (http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep.html).

Time Commitment

The submission process will take approximately 15-20 minutes depending on the speed of your Internet connection. The deadline for submitting abstracts is June 2, 2008. Please note that those waiting until the deadline to submit will experience significant delays due to the high volume of traffic on the submission site! For best results, do not wait until the deadline to submit your abstract…..the site is open now!

Preparing Your Abstract for Submission

To make your abstract submission a quick and easy process, please take the time to prepare your abstract in advance of submitting it online. Use these handy tips to prepare your abstract:

  • READ THE INSTRUCTIONS. Clear instructions are also on provided on each screen throughout the abstract submission site.

  • Prepare your abstract body (excluding: title, authors, and affiliations) in a MS Word document (preferred), Rich Text Format, ASCII Text, or WordPerfect format. The font should be in Times New Roman, 12 point. Remember to include the funding source(s) on the last line of the abstract.

  • Word-count your abstract body to ensure that it does not exceed 1500 characters, including spaces.

  • Save the abstract body and make note of the filename for future reference.
