Hurricane Ike Relief Fund
APS is pleased to announce the initiation of the Society’s Hurricane
Ike Relief Fund. The Fund is designed to help our scientific colleagues
and friends to cope with the after effects of the storm. With an initial
commitment of $50,000, Council has recommended that funds be provided to
support graduate students and postdoctoral fellows by providing
unrestricted grants of up to $2,000 to help them replace belongings, pay
for relocation costs, etc. It is expected that the graduate students and
postdoctoral fellows supported by this Fund will either be APS members
or working in laboratories of APS members. APS will accept applications
and work with the chairs of the affected departments to assess need.
Applications can be accessed by clicking on the link below. Based on the
response from graduate students and postdoctoral fellows, the APS
Council will consider increasing its contribution to the Relief Fund.
All application materials must be submitted online at
www.the-aps.org/awardapps.
The deadline for submission is October 24, 2008.
