Q

Must the student work in a lab at the same institution where s/he is doing undergraduate work or can s/he work with an APS member at another institution?

Q

Can the researcher apply for membership in the APS so that they will be in good standing by the time the fellowship is activated or must they be in good standing by the application date?

A

The sponsoring researcher must be a member in good standing of the APS at the time of the application deadline. Membership applications are currently being reviewed on a monthly basis. Click here to obtain APS membership application information.

A

Only the faculty sponsor/advisor need be an APS member. The other faculty member does not need to be an APS member.

Q

Can I have another fellowship at the same time from another organization?

A

No, while your APS fellowship can be supplemented by your sponsoring researcher, you cannot accept another fellowship for the same period from another organization. The APS fellowship also cannot be applied to another period of time; it is only good for the summer months.

Q

Can more than one student apply from the same lab?

A

Yes, as many students as are interested in the program can apply from the same lab. However, each lab is only allowed one awardee. So if more than one applicant was rated highly by the Committee, only the top-rated applicant would receive the award.
