Grandma's Molemasses
Grade Level: High School
Subject:
Physical Science

To enable students to develop the idea of mass ratios and the mole concept through direct manipulation of “atoms.” Students will calculate mass rates of two different types of "atoms," compare class data to discern that the mass ratios remain constant for the two types of "atoms," and use mass ratios to determine the number of "atoms." Students then move on to work with samples of metallic elements to apply the principles they have learned.
