WHAT DO THE SITE TESTERS DO?
The
site testers will be chosen from interested volunteers attending the
HAPS 2000 meeting in Charlotte. They should be teaching cardiovascular,
respiratory, renal, and/or neurophysiology during the 2000-2001 academic
year. They must be willing and able to:
-
Meet with the development team during HAPS 2000 to
discuss the project (time TBD, but Monday lunch hour seems likely). Take
workshops related to the grant if possible.
-
Fill out demographics and "Approaches to
Teaching" questionnaires
-
Incorporate curriculum activities for the
"Conductance and Gradients" module into their teaching
-
Communicate with the development team and each other
via a special listserv and the ITIP web site during the implementation
phase.
-
Complete the following specific assignments:
-
Obtain permission from institutional authorities to
participate in data-gathering about student attitude and class
performance. Individual student performance will not be tracked.
-
Keep a user’s journal with notes about the grant
activities and their implementation. Additional information about what
to include in the journals will be provided later.
-
Administer pre- and post-tests (provided by the
development team) to assess student attitude toward science, learning
preferences, and content and skills mastery.
We hope that all site-testers will be able to attend HAPS ‘01 in
Maui, Hawaii. Those who do will have their meeting registration paid for
by the NSF grant and a matching grant from HAPS. Site testers who cannot
attend HAPS ‘01 will receive a $100 stipend upon successful completion
of the implementation phase.
