Dee Silverthorn
University of Texas, Austin

Dr. Silverthorn serves as the primary PI and project manager. She has been active in physiology laboratory curriculum revision since her 1991 NSF ILI grant, “Curriculum Improvements in Undergraduate Physiology Laboratories.” She is the editor of a collection of physiology laboratory experiments to be published in  2005 by Pearson Education. She is a member of HAPS, SICB, ABLE, CUR, and NABT as well as the APS Archives Undergraduate Collection Development Committee, APS Task Force on Animals in Education, and APS Education Committee. She is editor-in-chief of Advances in Physiology Education. Email Dr. Silverthorn.

Joel Michael
Rush Medical College, Chicago, IL

Dr. Michael serves as a co-investigator, working on the exercise template development and the exercise selection process, exercise review, workshop arrangements, and evaluation. Over the past 23 years, Dr. Michael has studied the nature and prevalence of student misconceptions and the use of problem solving and laboratory activities to help student repair these faulty mental models.  Much of his work has involved student learning of cardiovascular physiology.  He has extensive experience organizing and presenting faculty development workshops for APS, HAPS, and IUPS. His educational research has been supported by the Office of Naval Research and the NSF. Email Dr. Michael.

Marsha Lakes Matyas
American Physiological Society, Bethesda, MD

Dr. Matyas serves as a co-Investigator, with project responsibilities in program evaluation, publication, and dissemination. Dr. Matyas is recognized nationally for her work in program evaluation. She is the APS Director of Education Programs and Director of the APS Archive of Teaching Resources. She has extensive experience in curriculum development and dissemination. Email Dr. Matyas.

Ann Sefton
University of Sydney
, Australia
Dr. Sefton is a co-Investigator on the project. She will function as editor-in-chief to organize the post-workshop exercise development and editing phase. Specifically, she will coordinate distribution of work among the participants, assure that revision and review deadlines are met, and distribute each exercise for appropriate peer review. Dr. Sefton is a noted neurophysiologist as well as being extremely active in curriculum development and physiology education. She has won University of Sydney and Australian national teaching awards. She is Co-Chair of the IUPS Education Committee and a member of IUPS Council. She has helped organize each IUPS Teaching Workshops since 1983. Email Dr. Sefton.
