As a 2007 Research Teacher, you will complete seven
assignments and interact with other RTs using online
technology. Over the next year, your assignments will be
mailed to you and placed on the Project
WISE website. WISE
stands for Web-based Inquiry Science Environment and was
created by a research group at the University of
California–Berkeley. The APS and Project WISE collaborate
on both teacher professional development and student
classroom projects.
The 2007 RT assignment topics include: inquiry based
teaching and learning; equity issues and strategies;
technology use for you and your students; developing
curriculum; and revising labs and lessons. We'll use
email, mail, and online forms to send assignments back and
forth. Each of your assignments will include three types
of activities, formatted as a mini Learning Cycle Unit:
Explore First!
Usually includes a hands-on exploration of
the topic. You may need to collect data or observations
from students, colleagues, friends, or family so look at
this right away when you get your assignment.
Read Up! Provides you with key readings on the topic that
will help you prepare for later fellowship activities and
your online discussions with your fellow RTs.
Reflect! Asks you to think about what you teach and how
you teach it. There are no “right” or ‘wrong” answers
here! Many teachers later say this was a key part of the
fellowship.
Tracking your assignments We've created a chart of
assignment due dates for your reference. To the right are
helpful links referred to throughout the assignments.
