Joint Program Committee

The Society's Bylaws specify:
ARTICLE V. Section 5. Joint Program Committee
A Joint Program Committee composed of six regular members of the Society
appointed by Council and elected representatives of the sections and groups
shall be responsible for scientific programs of the Society....
This Committee is composed of 12 section representatives and 6 at-large
members representing cross-cutting research areas, who may not serve more
than two consecutive terms. The term of office for both section
representatives and at-large members will be made annually for a maximum of
three years. The President-Elect is an ex officio member of the Committee,
without vote. The Chairperson is an ex officio member of Council, without
vote.
Duties of the Joint Program Committee are to:

Develop the scientific programs for the Society.

Assist Council in shaping policy for scientific programs.

Be responsible for the overall quality of the scientific
programs for the Society.

Seed cross-cutting "InFoci" elements of the APS/Experimental
Biology (EB) meeting.

Seed oral sessions (approximately one-third of the total)
for the EB meeting.

Cluster and coordinate the abstracts for the EB meeting.

Plan the inter-Society programming.
-
Responsible for reviewing the sections' programs to avoid
overlap, duplication, and low-quality proposals.

Define the number of oral sessions for sections and interest
groups.

Prepare budgets for submission to Council through the
Finance Committee.

Meet with specialty meeting organizers in the fall to focus
on future programming.

Recommend APS Conferences to Council.
