International Physiology Committee
(Established 1985)
This Committee is composed of six or more members, and one trainee member
of the Society as designated by Council. The President, President-Elect, and
Past President, who are members of the US National Committee for the
International Union of Physiological Sciences (IUPS), are ex officio members
of the Committee. The chairperson of the John F. Perkins Memorial Award for
International Physiologists Committee and the Treasurer of the IUPS are ex
officio members.
Duties of the International Physiology Committee are to:

Develop mechanisms for promoting interactions and
exchanges of APS members and foreign scientists in Latin America,
especially through the Latin American Initiative.

Develop programs to enhance the role of APS on the
international scene, especially in Latin America.

Establish communication and facilitate interchange between
the APS, other physiological societies, and their individual members.

Act as a clearinghouse for Council for joint meeting
requests and requests for support from international societies or workshops
in collaboration with the Joint Program Committee.

Encourage the formation of international interest groups to
promote scientific interactions in particular geographic areas.

Handle all matters pertaining to international physiological
affairs, on consultation with Council.

Maintain and strengthen relations with IUPS.

Have the Executive Director mail IUPS information to APS
members.

Organize symposia and/or workshops on international physiology
at Society meetings, when appropriate.

Approve donations of APS journals (total 100) to appropriate
developing countries.

Serve as the review committee for the International Early Career
Physiologist Travel Award.
