This committee is composed of five or more regular members of the Society. Representatives from other physiology groups may also be appointed by Council. The chairperson is an ex officio member of Council without vote. The Councillor of the Teaching of Physiology Section, the editor of Advances in Physiology Education, and the Education Officer are ex officio members of the Committee, without vote.
Duties of the Education Committee are to:
Provide leadership and guidance in the area of physiology education of undergraduate, graduate and professional students.
Make recommendations concerning the curricula for graduate programs that integrate systems physiology and cell and molecular biology.
Organize workshops on the application of new techniques to physiological problems.
Select high school teachers for the Summer Research Program.
Develop criteria and educational material for the Orr E. Reynolds Education Fellowship.
Cooperate with the Career Opportunities in Physiology Committee in the development of a Speakers Bureau and informational materials for speakers.
Recommend a committee member to represent the Society on the Coalition for Education in the Life Sciences.
